The Bay Area’s Top 9 Fall Festivals

August 10, 2018

Our favorite season at Danielle Lazier + Associates is nearly here—fall! As the nights get shorter and the air turns brisk, we can’t help but look forward to all that autumn has to offer. From film festivals to holiday get-togethers, we love celebrating such a joyful time of year in each of San Francisco’s diverse neighborhoods. Mark your calendars—we curated some events that you won’t want to miss!

San Francisco Green Film Festival

September 6 - 13

For the eighth year in a row, the Green Film Fest is back! Screening international movies from top documentary filmmakers and campaigners in the Bay Area, you can catch these films in several locations: The Castro Theater, the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and participating San Francisco public libraries.

Fringe Festival

September 6 - 15

This grassroots theater festival takes place at the EXIT Theaterplex at 156 Eddy Street. With over 30 groups performing a total of 150 shows over the festival period, this theater’s intimate setting makes it a great place to experience all there is to offer. Tickets cost no more than $12 and the variety of films means you’re sure to find one to meet anyone’s taste in movies.

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

September 15 - 16

Every year, this celebration takes place in the streets of San Francisco’s Chinatown. The Bay Area’s Chinatown is the oldest Chinatown in the U.S. and is an attraction in itself, so you know you’ll be missing out if you don’t attend this exciting event. The Mid-Autumn Moon event is a fun-filled celebration that takes place over two days. It includes arts and crafts, cultural exhibits, parades, mouth-watering food, and lots of children’s activities.

Oktoberfest by the Bay

September 21-23

Want to experience Oktoberfest without traveling to Munich? You’re in luck! This famed German festival comes to San Francisco’s Pier 48 this fall, so you won’t have to break the bank booking a trip to Europe. If you attend, look forward to witnessing the best music, singing, dancing, food, and drink that Bavaria has to offer. Trust us—you don’t want to miss it!

Fleet Week

October 1-8

Show your American pride at San Francisco’s Fleet Week! This celebration of the naval forces has everything from air shows and parades to parachute jump displays and ship tours. Take the opportunity to see the various air shows from sailboats and cruises, or you can avoid using your sea legs and watch the displays from shore. With busy streets and events to boot, you’ll want to set aside a day or two to wander the celebration and soak up the atmosphere.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass

October 5-7

A gift from the family of financier and philanthropist Warren Hellman, this music festival is completely free and packed with eclectic musical entertainment. It takes place at Golden Gate Park and you’ll be sure to find this one an enjoyable, family-friendly event.

Castro Street Fair

October 7

Located in the heart of the Castro District in Eureka Valley, the Castro Street Fair is known for its culture, history, and LGBTQ activism. This community street celebration was founded by Harvey Milk in 1974 and includes artists, craftspeople, and organizations from around the country.

Litquake

October 11-20

Litquake is one of the most well-known West Coast literary festivals. Spanning 10 days, it’s a (mostly) free, diverse lineup of numerous events: talks, workshops, readings, and other events to entertain booklovers of all ages. There will be 160 venues this year, meaning it’s easily accessible across the city. No matter where you are in San Francisco, there should be a nearby Litquake event for you to enjoy.

The Wharf Fest

October 20

If you’re a seafood fan—or just a fan of entertainment and scenic water views—then Wharf Fest is the place for you. This celebration takes place at the intersection of Jefferson and Taylor Streets, where the Fisherman’s Wharf crab wheel sign hangs. Bay Area locals can head down and enjoy the food, art, activities, and beautiful views over San Francisco Bay, Pier 42 promenade, and Alcatraz Island. In addition, the Chowder Competition promises to be a spectacular event. Ten different Wharf restaurants will battle for the Bay Area’s best chowder—and trust us, you don’t want to miss it!

San Francisco’s vibrant culture is worth checking out any day, but these seasonal festivals take the cake for must-sees. If you’re ready to move to the area and take advantage of these events year after year, look no further than Danielle Lazier + Associates. Give us a call and let us help you enjoy each season of Bay Area events for years to come.
